Arriving at Staines Theory Test Centre

The theory test has changed since I took it in 2008. It now includes a section on ‘the law relating to road signs’ which is not covered in the previous version of the test. This means that if you want to pass this part of the test, you will need to study the new material.

What is the theory test pass mark?

The theory test has three parts: Part 1 is a written paper exam, which tests your knowledge of road signs and traffic laws. It takes around two hours to complete. Part 2 is a practical driving test, where you’ll sit behind the wheel of a car and drive along a set route. This part lasts around 45 minutes. Finally, there’s a multiple choice question paper, which tests your ability to apply what you learned during the first two parts. There’s no pass mark for this section, but if you fail it, you won’t be allowed to take the practical driving test.

RESCHEDULING OR CANCELLING THE THEORY TEST

If you fail to attend the Theory Test Centre at the date and time arranged by us, we will not reschedule it for you. If you cancel the Theory Test before the day of the appointment, you will lose any fees paid. If you cancel after the day of the appointment but within 14 days of making the booking, you will lose 50% of the fee. After 14 days, you will lose 100% of the fee.

AFTER YOU HAVE BOOKED YOUR TEST

The booking system will ask you to provide some basic information about yourself. This includes your name, date of birth, gender, contact details and vehicle registration number. It may also ask if you want to book a car seat for your child.

ATTENDING THE THEORY TEST

If you want to take the Theory Test, you will need to attend one of our test centres. The cost of attending depends on which test centre you choose. For example, if you live in London, it would cost £50 per day. This includes all meals, accommodation and tuition. If you live outside London, the price may vary depending on where you live.
