The theory test is to see how much a potential driver knows and understands about the Highway Code. If you look on the Internet, you will see that there are many quizzes and videos designed to test your knowledge of the Highway Code. It\u2019s worth taking a few of these mock tests as it will give you more understanding of what is required for a pass.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>The Theory Test<\/h2>\n<p>If you are learning to drive, then you need to find a driving theory test centre approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, (DVSA) and book your test in advance which \u2013 of course \u2013 you can do on this site. When you sign up for the test you will need to take with you your provisional licence with your photograph. You must make sure to sign the licence when you receive it for it to be valid; you also need to take your passport with you in order to take the test.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">If you pass the test then you will be given a certificate, but if you don\u2019t pass your practical test inside 24 months of receiving that certificate, you will have to resit your theory test. Don\u2019t forget to take both parts of your licence with you when you attend for the test or you will be turned away and have to pay to book another test.<\/p>\n<h2>Taking the Theory Test<\/h2>\n<p>The first part of the theory test begins with fifty multi-choice questions, and a hazard awareness test. In order to pass the multiple choice part of the test you need to complete it in 57 minutes. You really need to do your homework here because the questions are chosen from a collection of 1,000, and you could get any one of those. To get a pass you need to answer 43 of the 50 questions correctly.<\/p>\n<h2>Hazard Perception<\/h2>\n<p>The hazard perception test is a series of questions as with the first part, but you will be presented with a certain situation on the roads and you must correctly answer the five questions concerning that situation. The questions regarding this are multi-choice asking what you should do in a given situation. You may need to give more than one answer to some of these situations, but this should be made clear in the test paper. If you look online, you will find plenty of examples of questions concerning the hazard perception part of the test, so it\u2019s worth studying these in some depth.<\/p>\n<h2>Test Results<\/h2>\n<p>At present, the average percentage needed to pass the theory test is around 51%, i.e., just over half of the questions should have the right answer.
