There are some cars, apart from the coveted classics, which are regarded as iconic, and the Land Rover is one such vehicle. Ever since the Land Rover was first revealed to the public in 1948, the brand has continued to sell, especially to landowners and the well-off. The Range Rover took the brand in a new direction, however. Here’s a look at some aspects of the Range Rover family’s story.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Introducing The Range Rover<\/h2>\n

The Range Rover is probably the most well-known utility vehicle that was ever manufactured, marrying superb, comfortable design, with high-level motor engineering. A year prior to the great unveiling of the Range Rover, the Rover company became part of what would become the British Leyland organisation. Manufacturers performed all kinds of tricks in order to keep their ideas and design a secret before they were ready to unveil the first Range Rover.<\/p>\n

The First Range Rover<\/h2>\n

When the first of their vehicles, the Range Rover, was unveiled in 1970, it had three doors. The four-wheel drive, split tailgate and a number of elegant design features were what made this vehicle a winner. It was nineteen years before the company unveiled their next design, which was the four-door Range Rover Discovery design, and luxurious features made this an instant success and favourite with well heeled customers.<\/p>\n

The Next Generation<\/h2>\n

In 1994, the company produced the next generation of the Range Rover Brand to critical acclaim. Instead of the usual round headlights this new generation of the Range Rover, had square ones, a feature that is still a hallmark of the brand. The square design of the headlamps is still a recognisable feature of the brand more than twenty years down the line.<\/p>\n

Third Generation Range Rovers<\/h2>\n

A few years on from the second generation, the company unveiled the third generation Range Rover in 2001. The hull of the vehicle was further refined giving an Italian, sleek tapering to the design. The inside of the vehicle had the usual luxurious features, but this time the designers had added some extra, metallic features to the interior.<\/p>\n

The Range Stormer<\/h2>\n

In 2004, the company produced what came to be known as the Range Stormer, which was meant to set the path for the future design of the Rover and the addition of new technology to the brand. In 2005, the company produced their next vehicle.<\/p>\n

Range Rover Sport<\/h2>\n

2005 saw the introduction of the Range Rover Sport; the first time that sports style had been added to the range. The vehicle was fitted with a 4.2 litre petrol engine, making this Rover extremely powerful. The air suspension meant that drivers had a higher, and arguably, more comfortable driving position, with added control, along with 4×4 driving both off the road and on it.<\/p>\n

The LRX and Evoque<\/h2>\n

The idea of the LRX was launched in 2008, aimed largely at those drivers who were not particularly interested in off road driving. Three years later, the company produced the Evoque. The company added fresh design with a nod towards cross-coupe. In recent years, the company has introduced the fourth generation Range Rover (2012), the Hybrid (2013), and the 2nd generation Range Rover Sport in 2013. In 2014 it was the Rover Sport SVR, and 2015 both the SVA Autobiography and Evoque Convertible.
