About to take your UK theory test? Then here’s a snapshot of how the theory test works. The UK theory test consists of two parts, a multiple-choice question section and a hazard perception test. You need to pass both sections to successfully complete the entire theory test.
Should you successfully complete the multiple-choice aspect, but fail the hazard perception test, then you fail the theory test overall.
What Happens In The Multiple-Choice Section?
Prior to the beginning of the theory test you will be informed as to how the test works. You will be given the option to take a practice session of multiple-choice questions to familiarise yourself with the test. After the practice session is over the real exam will begin.
For each question you will be presented with various possible answers from which, you must select the correct answer. Be advised that some questions will require more than one answer.
You are able switch between questions and ‘flag’ any questions that you wish to return to later in the test.
It may be the case on your theory test that some car and motorcycle questions will be presented as a case study. The case study will:
- Show a short story that 5 questions will be based on
- Focus on real life examples and experiences you could come across when you’re driving
The car and motorcycle multiple-choice element of the theory test consists of 50 questions of which, 43 must be answered correctly in order to pass. You will have 57 minutes to complete the multiple-choice section of the exam.
Following completion of the multiple-choice aspect of the theory test you will granted the option to take a maximum three minute interval prior to the beginning of the hazard perception test.
